RECENT LEGISLATION BENEFITS
MISSOURI LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS

Effective Aug. 28, the Family Farm Breeding Livestock Loan Program’s annual allocation of tax credits will be increased to $300,000 from $150,000. This program authorizes the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority (MASBDA) to issue Missouri lenders a state tax credit in lieu of the first year’s interest payment by an eligible livestock producer purchasing breeding stock.

During the first two years of the program the average savings to producers has been $2,700, a sizeable amount for new producers or those wishing to increase their herd size. The maximum eligible loan cannot exceed 90% of the cost of purchasing breeding livestock. The maximum amount of loan for each type of livestock is: Beef cattle - $75,000; Dairy cattle - $75,000; Sheep - $30,000; Goats - $30,000; Swine - $35,000
